Finally got the old 248 running again with the new 2 barrel carb and adapter from Stovebolt Engine Co. Worked fine for a couple days and then, just crusing down the street, (not pedal to the metal), it starts making a noise akin to an exhaust leak and it seems to loose some power. Checked it out and doesn't appear to be loosing any water but there is no compression in #4 and 5 so looks like I blew a head gasket. frown My question is, could that 2 barrel carb have somehow caused the problem or is it just a coincidence? Since there's lots of Stovebolts running around with 2 or 3 - 1 barrel carbs on an Offy manifold I don't see how my 2 barrel could have caused it? Also, since I'm not a professional mechanic, (I just play one on TV grin ), and I haven't torn it down to confirm the diagnosis yet, is there something else that might be responsable for this compression loss? Thanks in advance for the info/opinions!
