With the help of a friend we went hunting in the scrap heap behind the barn and found the old busted 1958 and 216 pump bodies.... and you are right... they are the same...same bolt pattern and same lever arrangement......

Now I am stcuk with the valve cover.... I have 2 different 216 valve cover.... one civy with the slit vent near the mounting stud and one without vents from a Canadian military engine.....BU.. they are to short to fit on a 261...about 3/4 inch to short..... am I missing something here???

I have been told that aftermarket chromed look alike 216 style are available but have not found a source..... one solution would be to cut the two I have and get a good wleder/body shop to but weld them into a long cover???? waht is you advice???
