My rebuilt 235 with only 40K on it sounds like it threw a rod. Still has oil pressure but has a horendous noise that is not in the valve train. Let go with a racket at betweeen 3 and 4 grand, 4 being my self imposed red line. I do like to wind it out on a regular basis. Anyhow, the silver lining here is that I have a reason to build one of two 261's I have in my garage. One is a 55 Pontiac and the other is 63, yes the date code is 63, Chevy. Patrick say's he thinks some 261's were used in 63 4x4's, or perhaps could be a replacement block. The 63 already has full flo oiling and I know I can change the 55 to the same so this is not an issue. Other than that does anyone know of any differences that might make one better than the other? Both are drilled for hydrualics if I decide to go that way.

My other question is about what the machine shop I'm looking at tells me about balancing. They grind to get the weights of rotaing parts the same and then send just the crank out to be balanced. I thought everything has to be spun to balance the assy. Does this sound like half a job or am I missing something here?

Thanks, Grant
