Some people put a little sealant around the edge of the engine casting/freeze plugs before they press/punch them in. The engine coolant should not be under much pressure in a Chevrolet 216/235/261 truck engine's cooling system (0 to 4 lbs in a truck engine and up to 7 lbs in the later 235 car engines). I do not know if the same goes for GMC 6's.
