If you do decide to go with the 1977 Nova rear look for one out of a Nova with a 350 and a 4 speed - according to one of those websites above that was the only combo that year that had 3.08 gears. Everything else was 2.56 or 2.73.
The 350/4speed cars also had a 8.5" ring gear which is much stronger than the 7.5" (and almost on par with the 12 bolt rear ends).
