#25255 07/05/2004 5:16 PM | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 608 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 608 | picked up a55 235 hydramatic eng last fall no smoke no knocks just took the eng as its going in a 52 one tonwith a 4 speed got it on the stand upside down to do rear seal. it was [censored] oil real good cause the seal spun in the rear main cap i suspect from setting a yr andhalf.anyway got a whole set of gaskets from kanter with the rope seal.have it soaking in a 20oz pepsibottle full of oil.ques is how far do i leave it above the block deckafter getting it in the seal bore?havnt done one of these babies since the early 70s. also all 4 mains are shimmed,the bearings look good this motor has never been apart inserts are stamped on the back with gm and a part#.the 4 door sedan it came out of only had 86 thousand on it and was being cut for parts for a sedan del resto.thanx in advance design for all replies steve sr  | | |
