I just got the 283 back in that I rebuilt. I had someone who knew what they were doing help me put the bottom end, cam, timing chain in.
I brought it home and put on the rebuilt heads, quadrajet, hei dist. & new plug wires. Adjusted the valves and put it all in the truck to make a long story short.
Cranked it over last by myself and it acted like it wanted to go but didn't. Had the Mrs. come out and crank it and when I leaned over to throttle the carb flames shot out of the carb. Almost a foot high!
Bumped it to tdc and the dist looked to be 180 out. Switched the plug wires to fire with where it was pointing to as #1. Now it shoots gas out the carb. I also backed all of the valves out a 1/2 turn.
Now what?
