Hmmm,

When going by the serial number on the vehicle title, I would have a 1947 1-ton truck. I definitely have a Chevy 1-Ton Panel Truck (looking out the window), but is it really a 1947? A few things do not look right.

- First of all, there is no serial number plate on the truck (which seems to be a common flaw).
- Second, the plate from the company that did the school bus conversion is missing the lower half. Now why would anyone cut it off unless the serial number does not match the title?
- Third, the truck has vent windows in the doors which were not available in 1947. However, the doors have the same faded orange color underneath as the rest of the truck. Hence I assume the doors and windows are original.
- Fourth, I know the truck sat outside for years and sunk into the ground to the running boards before its resurrection. Usually people loose the original title over that time.
- Fifth, the truck came with an awful lot of spareparts that must have come from a donor 1-ton truck. Maybe that is where the title came from.
- And last, the tax base on the title is 12000 pounds which is defintely wrong.

Any ideas how I can determine what year my Chevy 1-ton panel truck really is? Are there any features that only existed for one year? And last, once I know the year and weight, how do I tell the DOT? I it even worth the effort?

Thanks for any help,
