The VIN number originally would have been either the model/serial number or the engine serial number depending on where it was first registered.
If the title was ever lost, the new VIN number may not be anywhere on the vehicle.
Your GMC frame will also have a seriel number that should match the ID tag on the firewall. That serial number is located on the passenger side of the frame in front of the front axle.
