Hi All,
I have the tank out of my '53 Suburban to be blasted and sealed. I'm trying to find my truck in the 1947-1954 truck factory assembly manual. (Golden State reprint with the green covers) There's no index to truck types but I found a page with Model 3105-3106 showing rear doors. (panel or suburban)
Anyway, I can't find a gas tank diagram that matches mine. There's one that looks just right on sheet 8/1.00, but the fuel outlet is shown coming through the sending unit, my truck has fuel out through the wall of the tank.
I have a brand new sending unit (mine lost its float) which appears to be an exact replacement, from Chevy Duty, so I know my truck isn't too oddball.
1) Do your fuel pickup lines come through the sending unit or the tank wall?
There doesn't seem to be anything between the straps and tank. (I was expecting rubber or felt strips.) Book calls for cementing of "anti-squeak" between straps and tank. When I took the tank out there seemed to be the remains of something, but it crumbled and could have been packed road grease...
2) Anybody know what "anti-squeak" is and where I can get it? Its probably strips of something like rubber or felt. None of the usual mail order guys seem to list it.
Thanks for any help you can lend,
-John
