An old hotrodder freind of mine had a 261 in an old 41 Chevy coupe. It always ran fine, but the coupe was rotted out. Well he found a Jeep Stationwagon and did a transplant. In the process he rebuilt the 261. Well he found that he had forgotten ( kinda like I do) that he had bored the 261 .100. BTW this was about 30 years ago. He looked at the Books and found that 292 pistons would work (4" bore). Had it bored and drove it like he stole it for as long as I remember. He also was in with the origional Drag Safari in the early 50's. Ran a dragster/altered at the time with a 261 and a Wayne head. Back to the question. There has to be a reason that all the old stuff overheated. Maybe there's a reason that the new stuff has thin wall castings. Just my $.02 worth.
