I second the idea on doing the IFS swap. You mention keeping things simple. I didn't find this to be extemely difficult - see my link at bottom of page - and it will definitely improve your ride quality (nice if it's your daily). You say you don't mind cutting and welding - the IFS install took us just a few hours (once we had it to that point). Hardest part was installing the springs. The rest is just measure, measure, measure, tack, measure, weld, grind, fill, prime and paint!
