From my past experiences,,,if you have a halfway decent orig. piece,,,,spend the extra $$ to have it rechromed.
Youll thank yourself a few years later down the road.
All this repro. parts plating is done overseas...that tells you something right there.
Second,,when you look at some parts prices and its only 15 or 20.00 difference between painted or chrome,,,that tells me everything i need to know.
