Pump the brake pedal a few times with the engine off. Then apply pressure to the pedal & start the engine. The pedal should drop a little. If not you don,t have vacuum to it or the booster is defective. Sometimes a system has some air in it from previous service & works its way out. You suddenly get a better pedal. It,s possible an emergency brake cable is sticking & not letting the rear brake shoes return.
