I have smoothies as well and separate 1948 hub caps from the original rims.
Without altering/cutting the original caps, they will always stand proud of the smoothies, even with an adapter or clips. I would be too worried they fly off sooner or later.
The script style repros are replacement for the originals and will not fit smoothies.
The only caps that fit the smoothies, from the same manufacturer, are the plain caps and the ones that fit the 'rally' wheel...including the spinner...
