I'd guess an old school 3100 hot rod would involve a rear end out of a passenger car, probably a tranny out of something else besides a truck, and probably dual carbs.
Those factory 3 on the tree torque tube trannys are dogs, man.. and having busted two of 'em already (one in a '46, and one on a '50) i'm of the opinion that the torque tube design sucks hairy, sweaty, tick infested moose balls.
