Can I add a little to that?
GMC fenders have a hole for the parking lights.
A '54 or '55 1st will have an indentation for the parking lights.
Trucks larger than 1-ton do have a larger wheel opening. If you're looking at a fender with a larger opening, its probably also longer and wider to fit a bigger truck.
