Believe it or not it will probably improve to some degree just by driving it. The old standard method of breaking in a new or rebuilt motor by accelerating and decelerating to "load" up the rings and help them seat will work. It did with my 50 Chevy 216.
Or is it just a motor without a car? Now would be the best time to overhaul it without any sheet metal in the way.
