The following procedure will prove the integrity of the wire from gauge to tank, and tell you if the problem is the gauge or sender.
I don't know if your sending unit is as accessible as the units on earlier AD truck, so this test might be a bear.
With the key ON...pull the wire at the sending unit. The gauge should read FULL.
With the key ON..ground the same wire to a known good clean ground. The gauge should read EMPTY.
If all this happens, it tells you the gauge is working and the wire isn't compromised.
This means it is your sending unit..OR, the tank/sending unit isn't properly grounded. Good luck.
