All you do is sign up for one of their accounts for which you don't have to give much information (just a real e-mail address that they can contact you at as I recall). No downloads, unwanted background pictures, ActiveX or Java or any of the crap. I've had the Yahoo! account for about 5 or 6 years now and never had any problems or unwanted spam.
