Can you do a cylinder leak-down test?
How that works is you put air pressure to the cylinder with the piston at TDC. With the air pressure at the cylinder, you listen for air at the carb= intake valve leakage
the exhaust=exhaust valve leakage
the oil fill on the engine= rings leaking
look in the radiator =cooling system leak

I do not have the actual tool which tells a person what the actual percentag of leakage, I use a sparkplug which I removed the center part of the plug and braized in an air fitting. I can use the adapter to feed air pressure to the cylinder and listen for leakage.
Be careful as sometimes the air pressure can cause the engine to turn. Watch out for any parts of the engine that you would normally be aware of withthe engine running,,(Fan, alternator, power steering and those type of things)
