Go back in time(before our throw-away society) a few years and you will find that those glass bowls you speak of had "pumice" filters in them and they were mounted just in front of the carb. Didn't need to throw away a filter, just empty the water and gunk out of the bowl and clean and spray out the pumice filter and you were good to go again. That bowl lets water and rust and dirt settle in it and you can see when it needs cleaned out. Find one with the pumice stone and you don't have to keep buying filters. I know, You just can't stand the thought of not having something to throw away.-LOL OH!! And those bowls were called "Settling bowls" because they let the water and junk settle out of the gas.
