Shorter rods on a 292 is a bad idea,they are a little on the short side allready.A shorter rod will increase the angle of the rod at mid stroke,putting more side load on the cylinder walls,a problem with the stock rods in performance 292's.
Why reinvent the wheel? find a suitable piston or have custom ones made for 500 bucks.
