A vacuum gauge inside the vehicle or hanging on the outside rearview mirror can help with carb selection. When you floor board the throttle, the vacuum goes to zero,as the engine rpm increases, the vacuum will normally rise if the carb is too small for top end power.So if the vacuum reads 3 or 4 inches as the engine nears the point of maximum power, a larger carb can be fitted.
