I have a couple of lights. I am not sure of the technical names for them, but both need to be attached to battery power, and both need to be attached directly to the plug wire.

I think the inductive style merely clips AROUND the wire...

The one light is called an advance light and it is the cats meow! You dial in the advance you want in degrees, on the back of the gun. This means you don't have to hunt and squint at BTDC lines etc.

On the old bolts, I think when you line the ball (triangle?) with the pointer, you are dead nuts on, as this takes into consideration all the advance needed.

The battery box isn't handy on these old rigs so you have to grab power from the starter.

If this is the only rig you will use this item on, I would search for a basic, inexpensive light.

PS. Make sure whatever light you get has the ability to operate on 6 volts if that is what your rig is.
