If they are "huck style" brakes, they have to be adjusted pretty tight first before bleeding them. The old guy who told me how to adjust them was to " adjust them so that you have about a five pound of sugar of resistance when you spin the wheel". I thought he was nuts, but he was dead on. This guy use to build GMC trucks in the 30's to the 50's, so he knows what he talking about.
