Real steel fenders shouldn't be hard to find for a 53. I don't think theres anything wrong with putting fiberglass on. My 48 panel has fiberglass front and rear fenders, front and rear splash aprons and runningboards. The parts fit great and they've held up awsome couldn't be happier and saved a sh$t load of time on body work. I got them from Jim Carters. He seems to build good fenders and runningboards.
