It's not the trans it's the transfercase.If the gear lash is not correct she will whine like an ex-wife.Swap it for a 74-87 vintage.The trans you have is no different than the later muncie .the rockwell has straight cut gears and the drive shaft just carries the harmonics.I can help on the swap.
