Thank you for backing up my opinion, Oldironchevy.

I personally have replaced an IFS on a '60's car with a straight axle kit from Speedway Motors. I can tell you with experience that while the ride is a tad bit stiffer, its really not too bad at all. If I were to get some softer springs, I really don't think I'd even notice a difference.

Now it is true that a person can make a truck super low by grafting on an IFS. But I've also personally seen a friends truck ('58 chevy) which was lowered quite a bit by using the stock axle and just removing about 3 leaves from the front suspension. Another option is to use those fancy monoleafs you can buy from various chevy truck parts suppliers.

I personally plan on using a solid axle on my '58 Chevy truck. I've already bought the disc brake kit and I am in the process of prepping the axle for the swap (I like to paint things as I go). When I say SWAP, I mean I'm taking out the stock 3/4 ton axle and swapping in a non bent up 1/2 ton axle....just to clarify.

I will be removing about 3 leaves from the springs and dropping the front of that truck through that manner.

Another option for dropping a front of one of those trucks is mounting the axle ON TOP of the springs. I've heard of people doing it this way...which would put the front in the dirt. I can't figure out how to do it without c-notching the front of the frame....which I'm personally not interested in doing at this time with my project.

There's always time to go back into it after its been on the road for a while..hehe.

Anyhow...thats my 2 cents worth...My feelings won't be hurt if anyone disagrees.
