Wow,I've seen taverns with less cool stuff in them. When do you find time to "work" :p?
As for your problem, I once had a similiar experience. In my case, the pilot bushing had been mushroomed ever so slightly by the input shaft on the tranny during my first attempt at putting things together. Each effort after that just compounded the problem.
