Joe and Tony make very valid points, as I've just gone thru all of this myself in the last ten days. It is a B---ch to bleed that slave. One other problem I had, that could be related to your predicament, was a WEAK return spring that did not pull the clutch fork back firmly when pedal pressure was released, that left the clutch engaged a bit longer than it should have. Added another spring, problem solved.
