As demo man noted, brake fittings use a tapered flare to achieve a leak free connection. Pipe threads are cut on a taper, the harder you force them, the tighter they seal. On a banjo fitting you will find a copper washer as a sealing ring.
If all the seats and tapers were clean and burr free, they should seal. Double flares take a knack to do properly, but if these were store bought lines they "should" be right.
So..No Dope or Teflon Tape, take them apart and see what the rest of the story is...they won't go away until you do!
