Hello Hans,
Chevy never made a 3/4ton in shortbed. I would assume due to the heavy trucks being used for more load capacity. The frame on the 1/2tons is lighter than the 3/4 & 1tons. The easiest way to make a 3/4 short bed is to start with a long bed & have the frame & bed cut down. Along with that comes brake lines & driveshaft.
Personally, I would never do that. But then, I'm partial to longbeds & using trucks for work. A lot of people say that there is a stability advantage in a longer truck for towing. There are a lot of 1/2tons out there towing trailers. Just not big ones. I haven't seen any data or had personal experience in comparing the two. But then, I've never heard of anyone converting a 3/4ton to short bed to make a fair comparison.
Bottom line: it's your truck. Do what you want. I think that a shorter wheelbase truck with 3/4ton suspension would make for a rough ride. Just my thoughts.
Good luck.
Scott
