Yeah you can, but this is verry different old school craft and you will need an old hand to teach you how to do it.
I got me an "inverter rod welder", wich you don`t need gas or oxygen bottles, yust the rods.
It has the size and weight of an ladys hand bag (no big and heavy trafos anymore), was cheap ($200)and works real fine.
It took a while till I learned how to handle the rod but now I like it much more than my old MIG/TIG welder plus I have the option to buy an WIG update.
