my 70 chevy with 355 turbo 350 and 3.08s had 2 in. pipe with either cherry bombs or thrush mufflers and to me i did not care for the sound.... wasn't loud enough so what i'm thinking of doing is puttin on purple hornies (bolted to the headers) (2.5" pipe) and run a little bit of pipe straight back then a 45 degree bend and how ever much pipe i need to make the 24" long 2.5" to 4" tips stick out the side in front of the rear tires with a SM420 4speed should be in for a nice throaty bark and i know my 78 suburban is not a bolt but i have a full 2 1/4" exhuast system from LMC with glass backs with like 12" long 2 1/4" to 2 3/4" or 3" tips and it has the SM465 with 4.11s and it just rumbles going down the interstate doing 70 @ 3 grand
