I also debated rearcing the springs vs replacement. Local spring shop told me they could do the job in 1/2 day for about $300, and I didnt have to remove the springs myself.
I then called EATON springs and talked to them. They told me that there are 2 ways to rearc springs, cold hammer or using heat (forget actual term they used) They said cold is quick and cheap but springs will lose there new arc in a few months. Most spring shops are not set up for heat arcing springs.
My springs decided for me. The left leaves began to break a few weeks after a brutal desert outing. I purchased a new set of springs from eaton for about $350, including new bushings. They sold me " rod ride" springs with teflon buttons and tailored the springs to my needs (stock height with rod ride). The truck sits level, and rides as good as it did before. (I had teflon liners on old set. ) THe best part is the springs are new, not 40+ years old.
