When the cap is off, it just kinda dangles from the chain.. then when you put it back on, the chain goes down inside the filler neck.
The cap I have on my '46 is some real basic looking deal I got from Wal Mart for $2.99.. i'll have to check out the NAPA one.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
