A big dent in the bottom. I remember the generator case as being almost a 1/4" thick, add to that the field coils and it seems like it would be impossible to dent the thing! Must have happened OFF the engine!
Stuart. Yea, I was pretty suprised to see the dent, too.. considering how heavy duty these generators are.
In addition to being heavy steel, theres a "pan" underneath it when mounted.. so I doubt something like road debris could have caused the dent.
The engine does look like it's had some head work done, there wasn't a fan on it, and the driveshaft was disconnected from the tranny.. perhaps a previous owner had the engine out to do some work and dropped it while it was out?
