You are lucky that your truck still has the original plate, The 63 plate does not qualify under the California DMV
YOM rules except (
any old plate still on the road is only valid because it has been continuously registered to the same vehicle since it was originally issued. ) Many collectors choose to pay the extra fee to have the original style plates on their trucks and cars. If the tag was salvageble you can leave it on the plate and purchase a tag holder to attach the new tags. If you decide that you would like an original tag, search them out on ebay, they come up once in a while. You can also request information on an old license plate using this
