Tempest. If you want, take a look at my link below. There is one picture of the interior of my 46. I don't see anything "below the ashtray". However, if you look at the picture, Fumblin is right. ABOVE the ashtray is the Key switch, the Throttle, Choke, and Cigar lighter.

I don't have my Cigar lighter filament in place in the picture, but you can see the socket is there, and the dash is molded as you say, for the socket to sit in it.

The switch K10 is talking about is under the instrument cluster, to the right of the steering column. I don't think you can see it in the picture, but it's there. It's a 3-position sliding switch. To the left turns on the gauge lights. Center position is off, and to the right lights a light over the throttle, choke, and lighter.
