Tech tips The first thing to do is read the Tech tip articles provided by the members and staff of the Stovebolt. You can find a lot of information without asking questions, in fact after reading the articles you should have a healthy list of questions to ask.
FYI, the early stovebolts were 216 with poured in place babbitt bearings and the later 235 engines were fully pressurised so that the oil would get to all of the working parts and they has the sleeve style bearings. These engines are more common and have been used as the alternative to the 216. Don't forget to check out the "other" replacement engines the Chevy 261 and the GMC 302. When looking at your first truck, think about what you know, what you don't know and how much time and money do you want to spend. I love this hobby and even though I sometimes get lost in the project a good dose of the stovebolters advice and encouragement keeps me going.....Have fun!
