MT,I had the same thing happen to a 216 a few months after a valve job.The guides were even on the loose side too.My 3 other trucks with 235's,261's never have have a problem and they have tight guides and improved seals on them.
I'm thinking an additive in modern fuels mixes with the oil on the guide and makes a sticky mess?
