I changed a lot of tires with the factory jack. It beat the heck out of the bumper jacks that Chevy used in that era. I remember some roadside failures with them, we had a 58 and then a 63 wagon. Both failed with the back end of a loaded car in the air. The pickup jack might have been a pain to use, but at least it didn't fall apart on you. Between dad's and my pickups we had those jacks in a 64, 68, 69 and 74. You had to carry a couple of 2X4s in case you had a flat on the front, because if the tire went completely down the jack would not fit under the a-frame.
