I had the same setup but with a 3 speed, column shift transmission. I changed the 3 speed to a New Process A833 4 speed. Got a .73 overdrive and now (with 235/75R15 tires) I turn 2200 rpms at 70 and a shade over 2600 rpms at 80. 70 is easy cruising with the 292 I have as it has headers, a mild cam and 500 cfm 4 barrel carburetor.

So I recommend the A833 New Process 3 speed + Overdrive transmission .
