I've seen more RACING in 10 laps on a 1/4 mile dirt track than happens in the whole parade at Talladega. When I was a part-owner of a Northern California Sportsman car, the 4 fastest qualifiers would run a 4-lap trophy dash to open the night's show. We didn't get to participate very often, because ours was a low-bucks car and didn't get into dash lap times as a matter of routine, but one night, everything hooked up right, and my partner got into the dash. He was running third on the last lap when the two lead cars wrecked each other and ended up nose-to-nose on the front straightaway, with maybe 3 feet between them. My guy couldn't stop or swerve, so he split the middle between them, and tore both front wheels off. He slid across the finish line on the nose, and won the trophy dash!

of course, that ended our racing for the night, but it pleased the crowd!
