Yes, you can go to a local parts store and get replacement shocks.

I pulled one of mine off my truck and went to the Auto Zone near my house and with the help of a good parts counter guy, got new shocks for my 37. The key word here is "GOOD". You have to be lucky to get parts counter help that is interested in your project and willing to help you.

Also, check your old shocks for a name or part number. Even though it may be old or if the number is discontinued, they may have a replacement number.
