I know a fella w/a 57 3100 on a 79 frame, he did exactly that-he doesn't like air blowing on him. He mounted a thin underdash unit pointed straight up. Had to do a little fab work to make the drain work & he used a unit w/a square evaporator. He says it works well, is quiet, but that some folks gotta feel it to think it is working right.
