Well first off let me say that I've never done this so I'm speculating based on what I've heard from other forums and people.

I've heard of people removing wood panel stickers by using a heat gun to heat up the glue underneath and pealing the stickers off. People have been very successful at doing this without damaging the paint underneath. You may be able to heat up the glue in this way and then scrap it off with a plastic putty knife or better yet use a mild bug and tar remover to remove the glue once heated. suggestion, wear gloves.
