When I did mine, I had someone hold the mirrors in place while I sat in the driver's seat -- this is a great way of making sure you have them just where you want them!
Then I used the holes in the mirror-mounts themselves to mark the spots to drill ... placed masking tape down on the truck body and then drilled the holes.
It worked perfectly.
