Actually I found something that really helps with the old hard seals. I had a 1963 johndeere that leaked 90 wt like crazy. I knew i was going to have to split the tractor to fix it and needed a temporary fix. I poured a quart of TransX in and every time it leaked down I just added more. In a while It stopped leaking. The stuff is for automatic transmissions to soften seals that are hard. I had a total of about 2 quarts of transx in it. I used it a couple of more years with no leaks.
